The Globe Theatre was a famous theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599. It was destroyed by a fire on June 29, 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site in June 1614 and closed in 1642. A modern reconstruction of the Globe, named "Shakespeare's Globe", opened in 1997 and was built near the original. In the theatre, the wealthier people would pay more for their seats and sit higher and the poorer people would pay just a penny to stand on the ground below them. Color coded flags were used outside the theatre to advertise the type of play that was going to be performed that day. A red flag represented a history play, a white for a comedy play, and black for a tragedy play.
